Last night, Donatella Versace showcased her contribution to fall couture under the Atelier Versace line. Dresses were crafted from crushed velvet and chiffon in beautiful colour combinations to create an romantic flower fairy feel. Although the overall essence was a lot softer than the usual vampy vibes, there was still an hint of the glamorous previous collection with the use of intricate cutaway corset panelling and billowing skirts.

One thing Donatella understands is a woman’s form and this can be seen in every dress in this collection – some were short and flowing while others were long with boned bodices meaning that these designs would fit most body shapes.

A favourite look of mine was the low cut lavender dress worn by Jamie Bochert. The green floral embroidery complimented the 70s silhouette of the design and a  long sleeve, low neck combination can’t really be faulted in my opinion. Jamie’s look is remarkably masculine so the whimsical dress offered a winning contrast. Karlie Kloss also looked incredible as she closed the show in a gorgeous mauve maxi dress – her elfin features really worked in her favour with her look.

In terms of accessories, I was not a huge fan of the latex go-go boots or platform stripper shoes – they are the one thing that let this collection down and looked a bit trashy, but it is Versace after all and there is usually an element of novelty in the shows. The floral garlands worn as headbands looked great as a finishing touch to fashion a Midsummer Night’s Dream mood.
